Almost 6 months into leading the teams at Comunet, I’ve had quite a few people ask me what is the biggest surprise or challenge that I’ve come across.
Probably not-surprisingly, it’s been dealing with the common misconception that “the cloud” is less secure than on-premise solutions – which is exacerbated by the ambiguity that exists in many organisations around cloud computing in general.
Cloud computing has now been around long enough to no longer be a fad, and the statistics around cloud use and security incidents leave little room for debate on the fact that, configured correctly, Cloud Services (such as those provided by Microsoft or AWS) are more secure than on-premise solutions.
Comunet have always been proud advocates for cloud computing, but what gives us the greatest sense of satisfaction is seeing how the cloud can deliver benefits to our clients in their day-to-day work. Microsoft’s Office 365 is a great example of this. It is hard to imagine a workplace computer these days without Microsoft’s flagship programs such as Word, Excel or PowerPoint (just to name a few). The introduction of Office 365, however, changed the way that we access and work with these applications. By providing their Office suite on the cloud, Microsoft opened up new possibilities for workplaces. In this post, we want to talk about some of these possibilities and why your organisation should make the switch to Office 365 today.
Working with an organisation in the manufacturing or horticulture industry is always a fresh experience for our team, because we have the opportunity to ask the question “what can be done differently?” As is often the case with many organisations in these industries, processes and practices are underpinned by years of experience. For a technology company such as Comunet, our role is to view operations from a new perspective. This allows us to have a conversation with Engineers, Operations Managers and CEOs about how technology can work with their current processes to elevate outcomes for their customers. In this blog post, we want to share some examples of where these conversations have lead.
It’s that time of year again when we look back on the months that have been and look forward to the New Year ahead of us. Hopefully it has been a successful year for you and your organisation, but have you considered making some new year’s resolutions for your IT systems? Today, we wanted to start what we hope will be an annual feature on the Comunet blog, focusing on some IT resolutions that your company should consider in the new year ahead. Here are our suggestions for 2017:
Comunet were fortunate enough to attend Amazon Web Services’ (AWS) global annual conference, re:Invent 2016 a few weeks ago. Over the course of several days in Las Vegas, AWS announced several major releases and updates to their cloud platform and we wanted to highlight some of the exciting news that emerged from this event. Read on to find out more.
Yesterday’s state-wide blackout in South Australia left thousands of people in the dark for hours on end. Events such as these do not happen often, but that does detract from the now-proven fact that they can happen. The question is, were your IT systems prepared for yesterday’s events? More importantly, are they prepared if such events happen again?
On Comunet's YouTube channel, we recently published a video case study outlining the work that we performed for Gliderol, Australia's leading manufacturer of residential garage doors. Gliderol wanted to make the transition to the cloud and they had a very short time frame to do so. In partnership with Amazon Web Services (AWS), we were able to help Gliderol make this transition successfully and on time. To find out more, check out our video case study below:
| Comunet was fortunate enough to be able to join Amazon Web Services and Microsoft on stage to present at an event hosted by the Committee for Economic Development of Australia (CEDA). Our CEO, Mark Ogden, spoke about understanding the cloud and the benefits it can deliver to organisations large and small. If you would like to view the entire presentation, you can find it embedded below. A big thanks to CEDA for allowing us to participate in this important discussion. |
This week I am presenting to a room full of business leaders on The Cloud - Understanding, Opportunities and Challenges. Even though I have a non-technical background, I can still get caught up in the technology speak, making it difficult to achieve understanding on some of the key messages regarding cloud computing. I have been thinking about different analogies I could come up with to try and better explain what cloud...
| Over the last few months, Comunet have been working in conjunction with AWS and Kloud to help relaunch the Amazon Web Services User Group in Adelaide. The Group was first established in 2012 with the mission to give South Australian users the opportunity to meet, learn from each other and work together to become better with the technology. |
